a lot of my customers have asked questions about how I make my boards what kind of finish I use, how do you care for them.
Everything I make is crafted in my shop myself. I handcraft them one at a time so please allow one week for construction. I use food safe practices along with a food grade titebond glue as my adhesive. I use a food safe mineral oil on all the boards for the finish. plus I use a mixture of mineral oil and organic beeswax which I make my self for an extra protection.
For the care of the boards
Never place your board in the dishwasher or leave under water. All you have to do is wash with hot water and a mild dish soap. To deodorize your board after use simply cut a lemon sprinkle a little salt and wipe. Please remember that I make each board individually so no two boards are alike each one has its own unique characteristics.
there are four types of boards that you can use.
#1 the one piece board
these are the boards that you see that have various shapes. They can be used for cutting bread or serving cheese. the grain of the board is uninterrupted from cutting and gluing
#2 glued flat grained board
these are great as with the one piece board for slicing bread and presenting food. the board is made up from smaller strips of wood and glued together, it also resists warping and twisting.
this board is much more stable than the one piece board
#3 glued up edge grain board
these boards are suitable for more serious carving as edge grain and more durable than flat grain. The grain pattern on these boards are not as visible except on the edges. However they are very strong and resist warping and twisting.
#4 end grain boards
These boards are the most durable and versatile of all. Knives stay much sharper because they do cut the wood fibers each end grain is unique sometimes you can notice a difference in pattern and color from the same board. These boards are the most expensive than the other three due to the added steps used to create them. a lot of times these boards can be passed down and will last a long time
If you have a board that is damaged or needs repair from lack of maintenance I can repair the board for you. Just send me a photo and I can give you a quote
